  • There is no adhan (call to prayer) or iqamah for Eid prayer.
  • The khutbah is delivered after the prayer, unlike Friday prayer.
  • It is Sunnah to eat an odd number of dates before Eid al-Fitr prayer.
  • Perform ghusl (full body wash) and wear your best clothes for Eid.
  • Recite takbeerat on the way to the prayer ground.

How to Pray Eid Salah — Step by Step

1

Make Your Intention (Niyyah)

Make the intention in your heart to perform the Eid prayer. The intention does not need to be spoken aloud — it is an act of the heart.

2

Opening Takbeer

Say 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) with the imam to begin the prayer. Raise your hands to your ears as you say it.

3

Opening Supplication (Thana)

Recite the opening supplication quietly to yourself: 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabarakasmuka, wa ta'ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghairuk.'

4

Three Additional Takbeers

Say 'Allahu Akbar' three more times with the imam, raising your hands to your ears with each takbeer and dropping them to your sides between each one.

5

Imam Recites Surah Al-Fatiha

Listen attentively as the imam recites Surah Al-Fatiha followed by another surah from the Quran. Remain standing quietly.

6

Complete First Rakat

Perform ruku (bowing) and sujood (prostration) as in a regular prayer. Say the appropriate adhkar in each position.

7

Stand for Second Rakat

Rise for the second rakat. The imam will recite Surah Al-Fatiha and another surah.

8

Three More Takbeers Before Ruku

Before going into ruku in the second rakat, say 'Allahu Akbar' three additional times, raising your hands each time.

9

Complete Second Rakat

Perform ruku and sujood as normal. Then sit for the final tashahhud.

10

Tashahhud and Salaam

Recite the tashahhud (At-tahiyyatu), send salawat upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), and complete the prayer by turning your head to the right and left saying 'Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.'

11

Listen to the Eid Khutbah

After the prayer, the imam delivers the Eid khutbah (sermon). It is recommended to listen attentively. Unlike Jumu'ah, the khutbah comes after the prayer.
